As big STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® fans, we were buzzing like a chainsaw when the team’s athletes requested to Single Buck, Springboard Chop and Hot Saw in our DuluthFlex™ Fire Hose® Work Pants for the 2014 season. We couldn’t wait to ask four time U.S. Series Champion Arden Cogar, Jr. to share why they’re the work pants they prefer.
Why Arden Knows a Thing or Two about Crouching Comfort
There are over 20 members of the Cogar family active in Lumberjack Sports. Arden fired up his first chainsaw when he was 8 and started competing 4 years later. The 2014 season will be his 27th year as a STIHL TIMBERSPORTS professional competitor.
His goal is to make the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS finals at the age of 60 just like his dad Arden Cogar, Sr. “In 1994, my dad qualified 4th overall and ended up placing 12th. So, for me the best is yet to come.”
When he’s not competing, he is a civil defense trial attorney. “I argue, speak and write for a living. I chop, saw, and hot saw for fun,” Arden exclaims.
DuluthFlex Fire Hose Pants’ Competitive Edge
STIHL TIMBERSPORTS is a demanding endeavor that requires endless squatting, bending and scrambling up poles. A perfect example is the Springboard Chop discipline. The competitor uses an axe to chop pockets into a 9-foot poplar pole, then 6-inch wide springboard platforms are placed into the pockets and climbed. The competitor then chops through a 12-inch diameter white pine log at the top of the pole.
“This is when the comfort and stretch in the hips and legs of DuluthFlex Fire Hose Pants give us the edge,” says Arden. “I can focus on powering through the chop and balancing 8 feet up in the air.”
On a more personal note, Arden enjoys the off-the-shelf fit for his muscular build. “My waist is 39″ and my upper legs are 32″. This is the first pant I’ve found that fits without having to be tailored.”
Can’t Get Enough STIHL TIMBERSPORTS?
STIHL TIMBERSPORTS athletes compete in six professional lumberjack disciplines: the Hot Saw, Single Buck, Springboard Chop, Standing Block Chop, Stock Saw and Underhand Chop. The 2014 season features top returning lumberjacks including Arden, and for the first time in nearly two decades, the competition will air nationally on ABC in September.
